Spite & Cotton makes shirts that say something true about the person wearing them, usually before anyone asks.
The joke is always on the wearer. Never on anyone else. If a shirt punches down, it doesn't get made.
How they're made
Every design starts as a phrase, not a picture. The words are the hard part — the art exists to carry them. Type is drawn as outlines rather than set in a font, so what you see is exactly what gets printed, down to the millimetre.
Illustrations are drawn for us, then reduced to a small palette chosen against the specific colour of the shirt it's going on. A design made for Butter isn't reused on Black; the colours are picked for the fabric, not in the abstract.
Nothing gets listed until a person has looked at it and said yes. Most designs don't survive that.
The blanks
Comfort Colors 1717 — garment-dyed heavyweight cotton, relaxed unisex fit, pre-shrunk. It softens with every wash and the colour settles rather than fades. We print to order in the US, which means nothing sits in a warehouse and nothing gets thrown away unsold.
Some designs are embroidered instead of printed. Those are real thread on the same blank — one drawing, one word, and noticeably more weight to them.
Shipping
Order any 3 and shipping is on us. Mix and match anything in the shop; the discount applies itself at checkout, no code.
Printed to order means a few days in production before anything ships. Worth the wait, we think.
